Why wait when you can start now? Imagine how much closer to your goal you would be today if you’d started sooner.
Whether it’s to get fit, lose weight, quit smoking or any other goal, I think most people struggle with starting. I need time to think, time to plan, time to do this or that first, is what most people say and believe. The truth is, you need to really want to make a change, deep down inside of you and that change needs to be for you. That’s when you’ll be able to flip the switch and get started.

Then finding the balance between true special occasions versus excuses and  between preparation and work versus laziness is what matters most.  Here’s why: there will always be a birthday or other celebration, an outing, a bad day, a stressful work day, and many more excuses to get in your way. Worse still, there will always be someone talking you into these excuses with little strings of words like these: “it’s just this once”, “you can start over tomorrow”, “just have one; a small piece won’t hurt”.  Don’t listen to them. They aren’t helping you at all, just like they don’t help themselves (or maybe they help themselves too much).  Ever notice how it’s those same people who don’t manage to succeed with their eating and exercise plans. They don’t understand why and they don’t understand why you are able to manage it.  Then they ask you how you do it and follow with an attempt to get you to skip a day for some reason or other. Funny that isn’t?

You want to succeed (not all the below takes minutes, not days to answer):

  • Ask yourself what your goals are and why
  • Ask yourself who you are doing it for
  • Identify what/who may be holding you back – then steer clear and only get support from the people who will give you real support
  • Get started – it only takes one small step to start – bigger, longer term plans can follow.
